Subway Sponsors Rangers' Glass Boards

Bad idea or bad idea?

One step closer to ads on jerseys, or "the Rangers presented by Geico!"

  1. I'm guessing that was a video effect, but it's just another step to making the ice a billboard, even if it's just for TV viewer consumption. It sure is an odd look.

  4. I have never been found of the video effect add-in ads. This is only one step away from putting the digitally added ads on the ice and that would be horrible.

  8. Gary Buttman you are a stinky stinky ass for allowing this farce. Subway has been blacklisted, I am no longer buying Subway starting today. And any other business who feels like they should advertise on the end glass will also lose my business. Next thing you know they will install glass twice the height to double their billboard size for more ad's.

  11. I'd rather them be there than on the ice itself, and any additional revenue for teams and hockey broadcasters right now is good for fans of hockey. Bring it on.

  12. Just read more of the comments. Seriously? You are intentionally going to NOT support businesses that are supporting hockey? You are clearly the same group that want the league to go back to 6 teams that all play in a small region of the continent.

    Hockey is a business. I want to be able to enjoy it, and this lets it happen. It isn't in the way of any play. It is more out of the way than the logos under the ice at center, and even more out of the way than the ones on the boards in the arena. I think it's brilliant.

    I think that digital advertisements on the class are a bit obnoxious, but I'm not completely poo-pooing the idea. If the ads appeared when the puck was not in play, it wouldn't be so bad. There's other ways to advertise the game in less intrusive ways, but sadly, plastering SUBWAY on the glass during the third period is pretty damn effective.

    I mean I had a meatball sub today...and I thought about that damn glass ad the whole time I ate it.

    Still, it's an obnoxious advertising scheme that hopefully won't catch on in that form.

    Why is it any more obnoxious than ads on the boards? Certainly less so than ads on the ice, where are already there. I'd also rather them be static through the whole game, than popping in and out when the puck is and isn't in play. I think that would be more distracting.

    I'm honestly having a hard time thinking of a less obtrusive way of adding more advertising space. What other ideas do you have?

    The money that the League is making off of these additional ads is inevitably going to go towards keeping teams like Phoenix on life support when simply relocating the teams to better markets would likely be financially more beneficial in the long term. All this would do is further ensure these sunshine teams that are bleeding the League's money remain a cancer.

  17. Hockey is not a business. It's a game. It doesn't need a cent to be "allowed to happen". IMO it's became far too much of a business. Stop being so selfish.

  18. Teams need to sell ad space. We've all accepted that at some point in our lives. Think about the MLB and the digital ads they add in during the World Series, we're so used to them now that it's not a big deal. Annoying? Sure. I think what makes this so different is that we're already used to ads on the boards, smacking them on the glass just seems like overkill.

  20. Id rather have ad's on the glass and jerseys then have TV timeout commercials that stop the flow of the game. Bring on the European system that does not have TV commercials.
